Body Fat/ Fat Percentage
Body fat is an important factor in overall wellness, and too much can be problematic. In fact, high levels of body fat, or obesity, raise your risk of developing many of the common chronic health conditions linked to premature, preventable death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Having too little body fat can cause health issues, too, as it’s necessary for the regulation of glucose, cholesterol, energy storage and release, and reproductive hormone metabolism. Without enough body fat, these functions can be compromised.
Heart Rate
This symbol will flash while the scale is taking your heart rate. You must be barefoot during this process. Once it stops flashing, you will see your current heart rate.
Your heart speeds up and slows down to accommodate your changing need for oxygen as your activities vary throughout the day. Your resting heart rate can be impacted by stress/anxiety, physical activity, hormones, and medications. A "normal" heart rate varies from person to person. However, an unusually high resting heart rate or low maximum heart rate may signify an increased risk of heart disease or other medical conditions.
Muscular Percentage
The estimated % of your body which is muscle mass. This consists of skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, and the water which is contained within them.
As muscle mass increases, the rate at which energy is burned increases, accelerating the basal metabolic rate. An increase in muscle mass may increase total body weight as muscle weighs more than fat. Therefore, it is important to monitor each aspect of the body separately using measurements from body composition scales.
Moisture Percentage
The Total Body Water measurement shows how hydrated the body is. Water is used in the body for transporting waste, helping organs to function, regulating body temperature, and digestion. The amount of fluid consumption required varies from person to person and is influenced by climate and the amount of physical activity undertaken. Experts recommend an individual’s consumption should be at least two liters of fluid per day. The average Total Body Water reading for women is 50-55%.
Bone Mass
Bone Mass results are usually given in pounds. This tells you the amount of your weight that is composed of your bones. Comparing your bone mass to a healthy range for your age and gender gives you insights into your bone health. Remember, it's important to discuss these results with a healthcare professional who can provide context based on your overall health. They'll help you understand if your bone mass is in a good range or if there are concerns that need attention.
BMI
Interpreting BMI reports involves understanding the relationship between body composition and weight. BMI, or Body Mass Index, is calculated using your weight and height. While BMI is a useful general indicator of weight-related health, it may not capture individual variations in body composition. For a comprehensive understanding, it's important to consider body fat percentage and muscle mass in conjunction with BMI.
