The app will guide you through the necessary steps to apply your new sensor and transmitter, as well as how to begin the warmup process. The sensor is replaced every 10 days and the transmitter is replaced every 90 days; we'll remind you when it's time to replace each. This means you may go through 9 sensors before replacing a transmitter.
Follow these steps to successfully set up a new sensor and transmitter:
1. Remove the existing transmitter and sensor
The app will send reminders leading up to the 90th day and then a final reminder when it’s time to replace your transmitter. Remove it just like you would remove a bandaid. The transmitter, and sensor all come off with the patch.
NOTE: If you remove your sensor any amount of time before it expires, it is critical to stop your sensor manually by going to Settings > CGM > Dexcom G6 (sensor)>Stop Sensor.
2. Prepare to connect a new sensor with a new transmitter
Navigate to settings then select: CGM > Transmitter > Pair New or Disconnect and then Pair New. Enter the transmitter serial number (located on the box) and the sensor code as prompted by the app.
3. Place your new sensor
The app will guide you through applying your new sensor, connecting your transmitter, and beginning the warmup process. Note: be sure to place the squared tip of the gray transmitter into the sensor cradle first, ensuring that this tip inserts into the slot for it before then pressing the rest of the transmitter into the sensor cradle firmly and listening for two clicks. Check out How to Place a CGM for more information and best practices.
