Glucose Variability (GV) has been added to the home screen below your current glucose reading, and Time in Range (TIR) has been relocated to your graph area. This means more data points at your fingertips.
What is Glucose Variability (GV):
Glucose Variability (GV), represented as a percentage, refers to the height and frequency of your glucose fluctuations throughout the day. Fewer highs and lows over the long term leads to improved metabolic health and more weight loss.
What are you looking for when it comes to GV?
The goal is to stay under 15%. Your goal will be personalized to you and your current metrics within the Signos app. If you are consistently below 15%, keep it up! You’ll only see added benefits. Clinical data from research studies shows that higher GV is associated with more poor metabolic health outcomes while lower GV is associated with increased lifespan independently of hemoglobin A1c levels.
What do the different components of the GV meter mean?
Why the change?
For two reasons: One, more data points on your home screen will keep you dialed into the direction of your metabolic health. Two, Time in Range and Glucose variability work wonderfully together. Combined, these metrics are the best predictor of weight loss success.
When should I look at Glucose Variability (GV) and when should I look at my Time in Range (TIR)?
This is a trick question! Looking at both GV and TIR together can give you a bigger picture view of your glucose stability over time. The overall goal is to have small spikes that stay within a personalized range over time. Consider the graphic below. On the left you’ll see a series of dramatic quick spikes. As these spikes go down quickly, you will not see a significant impact to your time in range. However, as the difference between the peak and valley of the spike is significant, this would impact your GV.
On the right side of the graphic you see an example of an extended spike. In this case, the difference between the peaks and valleys is not significant, so you will not see an impact on your GV. However, this extended spike has kept you out of range for a long period of time.
Experiencing both types of these spikes regularly can have a negative impact on your metabolic health goals. By tracking both of these metrics together you have the insights to make changes to improve your metabolic health as a whole.
