Best practices for preparation
- Consider shaving the hair from the application site to prevent the sensor from falling off early and for pain-free removal on day 15.
- Never apply lotions to the spot you intend to apply your CGM as this will prevent the adhesive from sticking properly
Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Wash your hands
Thoroughly wash and dry your hands.
Step 2: Prepare your sensor site
Pick a spot on the “meatiest” part of the back of your upper arm. As you are considering where to place it exactly, choose a place that:
- Has no/low hair
- Is not prone to being bumped, compressed or slept on
- Has no tattoos or scars
- Avoids muscle or bone
- Is free from lotions or oils
Then use an alcohol wipe to remove excess oils from the area before applying.
Step 3: Unscrew the applicator cap
Unscrew the cap on your applicator ensuring the safety seal was not broken beforehand.
Step 4: Place the biosensor
Press the applicator firmly onto your arm. Ensure the clear plastic ring is depressed fully. Then, press the button to apply your sensor.
Important:
Keep the applicator with the QR code until you are finished setting up the sensor as you will need this code to connect the sensor to the app. It is also a good idea to write down your 4 digit sensor code in case you ever need to re-pair the sensor. If you lose it, you can reach out to support for assistance.
Step 5: Rub and press
To help keep the patch on your skin, rub firmly around the adhesive patch 3 times. Then gently press on top of the sensor for 10 seconds to help it set.
Step 6: Place the overpatch
After ensuring that the sensor is adhered, apply the Signos overpatch by removing the outer adhesive tabs one by one and smooth over the sensor.
Wearing a sports cover helps ensure the sensor doesn’t get damaged or fall off before the end of 15 days.
Note: You can also use the Dexcom provided overpatch (pictured), as long as at least one overpatch is used.
Step 6: Pair the biosensor with the app
- Scan the QR code or enter your 4-digit sensor code manually
- Stay near your phone and wait for the Bluetooth pairing request. Accept it when it appears.
- Once paired, your sensor will warm up in about 30 minutes.
-
That’s it! You’ll start receiving glucose readings for the next 15 days.
Don’t see a bluetooth pairing request? Ensure that your bluetooth is enabled, check that you’ve entered the correct pairing code, and try making sure old devices are out of range of your phone, then attempt to re-pair in the app. If that doesn't work you should also check that you have no more than 10 bluetooth devices listed in your phone’s bluetooth list as this can cause issues. Note: The first 24 hours of a new sensor may have more variable readings. This is a normal part of the sensor’s self calibration process.
